Will the next round of global warming cause chaos? The Dalai Lama, Thunberg, and scientists discuss the vicious cycle of climate change.

2021-06-21

"I am deeply inspired by your opening the eyes of the world to the urgency of protecting the Earth and inspiring young generations to join the climate movement," the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, wrote in an open letter to Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg in 2019. On January 10, 2021, Thunberg celebrated her 18th birthday and the Dalai Lama published "Our Only Home: A Call to Action on Climate Change." The two, both dedicated to environmental protection, participated in a virtual online conversation hosted by the Mind & Life Institute in the United States. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50855134427_6548461c9a_b.jpg The Dalai Lama and the environmental activist Thunberg participated in a virtual online conversation. In addition to discussing climate feedback loops, participating scientists, religious figures, scientists, and activists also agreed that education is key to addressing climate disasters. This article summarizes the key points of the conversation for your reference. The Dalai Lama and Thunberg: A Friendship of Over 60 Years. Thunberg: Despite our significant differences in age and other aspects, we share the same goal: protecting our planet. The Dalai Lama: Overall, the world's dominant perspective is materialistic, with people focusing on the individual and rarely considering the well-being of the whole. Your efforts give me hope for human society, because a younger generation that cares about humanity as a whole is truly emerging. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50854963327_fc48f13f3f_b.jpg Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, and environmental activist Thunberg participated in an online conversation. The Dalai Lama raised the question of why the human brain is so outstanding, but has become a trouble maker? The Dalai Lama said: Animals only eat, sleep, and reproduce, and will not cause large-scale damage to the earth, but humans will cause large-scale destruction and harm because of the differences between "us" and "them." Because people pay too much attention to themselves, focusing on "my" country, "my" nation, and "my" family, people's thinking focus has become narrow. According to the current situation in the world, everyone's survival depends on the family, and the survival of every family depends on the community, so everyone's life is interdependent. The Dalai Lama emphasized: "Now is the time, we must have the concept of "7 billion people as one." Source: Environmental Information Center
