Energy efficiency labeling for household induction cookers will be mandatory in China starting March 1st.

  • 2009-03-01

Starting March 1, 2009, China will enforce the "Implementation Rules for Energy Efficiency Labeling of Household Induction Cookers," prohibiting the sale of household induction cookers without energy efficiency labels. At that time, 10% to 15% of high-energy-consuming household induction cookers will be phased out of the market.

On September 1, 2008, the national standard "Minimum Allowable Values of Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Grades for Household Induction Cookers" came into full effect, officially ending the embarrassing situation of the Chinese induction cooker industry having no standards to follow for many years. An official from the China Household Electrical Appliances Association stated that the publication of the energy efficiency label for induction cookers promoted the positive development of the entire industry, maximized the protection of consumer interests, and played an important role in improving the international standing of Chinese product technical standards. According to relevant research and predictions, if the entire induction cooker industry could meet the energy-saving standards of the standard, based on the current annual sales volume of 50 million units, it would be equivalent to saving the country more than 1.5 million tons of standard coal annually, greatly contributing to the construction of an energy-saving society.

According to reports, the energy efficiency standards for induction cookers are set at five levels, which limits the market entry threshold for induction cookers. Products with energy efficiency below the fifth level will be eliminated and will not be allowed to be produced or sold. Consumers will be able to easily select products by looking at the labels in the future.
