Canada releases final updated version of the Stockholm Convention POP.

The Government of Canada has released the final, updated version of the National Implementation Plan (NIP) in accordance with the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

The purpose of this document is to clarify to the contracting parties and the public Canada’s plans, policies and projects in order to implement the obligations related to the nine persistent organic pollutants added to the Convention in 2009.

The following are the 9 POPs:

1.           α-六氯環己烷(α-六氯環己烷;α-HCH);

2.           β-六氯環己烷(β-六氯環己烷;β-HCH);

3.           林丹(γ-HCH);

4. Decachloroketone;

5.           六溴代二苯(HBB);

6.           六溴聯苯醚(Hexa-BDE)和七溴聯苯醚(Hepta-BDE);

7.           五氯苯(PeCB);

8.           四溴聯苯醚(tetra-BDE)和五溴聯苯醚(penta-BDE);

9. Perfluorooctane sulfonates, their salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluorooctane (PFOS).

In April 2011, Canada approved nine new persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and prepared to update its national implementation plan in accordance with its reporting obligations under Article 7 of the Stockholm Convention. The Canadian government stated that the final version was submitted to the Convention Secretariat by April 4, 2013.
