The new version of the Joint Industry Guide (JIG-101-A) is released

The Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association (JEDEC), and the Japan Green Procurement Survey Standardization Association (JGPSSI) have jointly revised the Joint Industry Guide (JIG-101) to provide information on prohibited substances in relevant electronic products/components, and to make it applicable to all manufacturers in the supply chain.

The revised Joint Industry Guide for Material Composition Declaration for Electronics Products (JIG-101-A) is a standardized list of prohibited substances. When suppliers provide finished products to electronics and electrical product (EMP) customers containing components of prohibited substances from this list, they must also provide information about these prohibited substances. This document helps companies at any stage of the supply chain, from raw materials to finished products such as computers, televisions, and mobile phones. JIG-101 was published in April 2005. Revision A (JIG-101-A) primarily updates information on regulated substances and includes minor modifications for ease of use. For example:

		The lead content in the outer sheath of the cable must be below 300 ppm (California Proposition 65).

		Category 4 RoHS Heavy Metals (Additional legislation – California laws SB20 and SB50)

		Added compounds (Ugilec) that disable PCT and three PCBs.

		The limit for cadmium has been revised from 75 ppm to 100 ppm.

		Remove "Bromodifluoromethane and isomers" (HBFCs) and add 34 new banned compounds.

		Four new compounds have been added to the list of prohibited compounds in the "phthalates" class (out of a total of six compounds).

In the international market, many companies have developed their own prohibited substances programs and standards. This has resulted in numerous documents used to investigate information on such prohibited substances. However, each company, through its own supply chain system, requires suppliers to provide relevant information, leading to suppliers repeatedly performing similar procedures to provide information to their customers. JIG has rationalized this process, setting new standards for declaring the presence and content of hundreds of regulated substances/materials.

About the Joint Industry Guidelines (JIG)
This standardized list provides a complete and effective material declaration operating procedure to benefit suppliers and their customers.

Both the older version of JIG-101 and the revised version JIG-101A classify the substances under investigation as Level A and Level B. Level A substances are prohibited by regulations.
