The EU has proposed adding 6 new SVHCs to its restricted list.

  • 2016-10-06

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) plans to add six Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) to the list of restricted substances in the REAH (Restricted Substances Regulation).

The following six chemical substances are recommended for addition:

  • – 4,4’-Isopropylidenediphenol 雙酚A;
  • –  4-Heptylphenol壬基苯酚;
  • – 4-tert-butylphenol對叔丁基苯酚;
  • – Benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2-anhydride (trimellitic anhydride) 偏苯三酸酐;
  • – Nonadecafluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) 全氟癸酸以及銨鹽;
  • – p-(1,1-dimethylpropyl)phenol 對叔戊基苯酚。

Although the REACH chemical regulations only apply to products within the European Union, they also impact US and international companies. For products to be marketed in the EU, they must comply with REACH regulations, and all manufacturers in the supply chain must provide information disclosure requirements in accordance with the regulations.

Therefore, although many small and medium-sized enterprises in Taiwan do not directly export products to the EU market, they must actively respond to the updated requirements of the REACH regulation in order to comply with the communication of chemical information in the supply chain and the maximum permissible content of hazardous substances or SVHCs, so as to continue to connect with the international market and achieve the goal of sustainable business operation.
