The REACH restrictions on 1,4-dichlorobenzene will take effect on June 1, 2015

On May 9, 2014, the European Union issued a resolution that the EU REACH regulation's restrictions on the content of 1,4-dichlorobenzene in air fresheners and deodorizers intended for use in public places would come into effect on June 1, 2015.

1,4-Dichlorobenzene has been classified as a Group 2 carcinogen, toxic to the liver, kidneys, and respiratory tract. Air fresheners and deodorizers containing 1,4-dichlorobenzene are mainly used for deodorization in public places and public restrooms, posing exposure risks to relevant personnel, including restroom cleaners. Therefore, the REACH regulation requires that the content of 1,4-dichlorobenzene (whether as a substance or a component of a mixture) in air fresheners and deodorizers used in public places must not exceed 1%.
