EU RoHS Directive – Assessment report on newly added hazardous banned substances is expected to be released in mid-April
spacer

In late February 2008, Oko-Institut issued a public consultation regarding 46 categories of chemical substances that might be added to the EU RoHS Directive. These 46 substances are widely used in electrical and electronic products and other consumer products. The inclusion of new hazardous substances under consideration was determined based on declarations provided by electrical and electronic manufacturers/suppliers, existing research data, XRF analysis reports, and other relevant information. Oko-Institut also publicly solicited information on the following questions:

spacer1.
Should other chemical substances be included in the list of hazardous substances used in electronic and electrical products?
spacer2.
The list includes which components (e.g., transistors, capacitors, resistors, printed circuit boards) are used with the listed hazardous substances and their concentration ranges.
spacer3.Besides the EU risk assessment report, are there any other risk assessment reports regarding the hazardous substances on the list?
spacer4.
Are there any possible alternatives to the hazardous substances on the list? What are their advantages and disadvantages?

Oko-Institut is currently assessing the risks to human and environmental health posed by hazardous substances used in electrical and electronic products. The assessment will list highly hazardous substances and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of potential alternatives. The report is expected to be released in mid-April 2008. These 46 substances may become prohibited hazardous substances in the future version of the EU RoHS Directive.

The supplementary list of new hazardous substances can be added at [date/time]. HSE-RoHS website Free download.
