Since the first edition of the Guide to Greener Electronics was released in August 2006, Greenpeace has updated the rankings every three months. The eighth edition was released on June 25, 2008, evaluating 18 world-renowned manufacturers, covering products such as computers, mobile phones, televisions, and game consoles. Sony Ericsson and Sony both scored 5.1 points, taking first place, followed by Nokia with 4.8 points, and Samsung and Dell with 4.5 points each.

It is worth noting that the assessment focus has changed in the eighth edition, leading to a decrease in the overall assessment score. The purpose of updating the assessment criteria is as follows:
1.Remove harmful substances from products
2.Responsible retrieval/recycling of waste products
3.Improve corporate policies and practices related to climate and energy

Hazardous Substance Assessment Criteria
Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) remain a focus of Greenpeace's attention. More hazardous substances are likely to be included in the assessment in the future. This includes many substances already regulated by major manufacturers, such as:

1.鄰苯二甲酸酯 (all phthalates)
2.鈹,包括鈹合金及其化合物 (beryllium – including alloys and compounds)
3.銻/銻化合物 (antimony/antimony compounds)

Electronic Waste Recycling Assessment Criteria:
The use of recycled plastic content in products and the timeline for that use.

Energy Assessment Criteria:

Greenpeace hopes that major manufacturers will address their own responsibility for climate change through five new energy assessment criteria.

1.Support global reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
2.Disclose GHG emissions from both the company itself and its suppliers.
3.The company's own GHG emissions reduction commitment timeline
4.可再生能源使用量 (Amount of renewable energy used)
5.Energy efficiency of new product models
