The Chinese standard GB/T 17519 – 2013, "Guidelines for the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Chemicals," has been published.

The Chinese standard GB/T 17519 – 2013, "Guidelines for the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Chemicals," has been published.

It is reported that China's GB/T 17519-2013 "Guidelines for the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Chemicals" has recently been published and will come into effect on January 31, 2014, replacing the original GB/T 17519.2-2003.

GB/T 17519-2013 is a supporting implementation standard for GB/T 16483-2008 "Content and Item Order of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for Chemicals". It specifies the detailed writing rules and fixed format for each item in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) listed in GB/T 16483-2008. Appendix A is a complete SDS example, while Appendix B provides key data sources for reference when writing each part of the SDS (but does not restrict the use of other data sources).

Although GB/T 17519 and GB/T 16483 are both recommended standards, there are currently no other normative documents related to SDS in China. Therefore, regulatory authorities use these two national standards as the basis for reviewing whether SDS complies with regulations.

The revised standard GB/T 17519-2013 referenced numerous international and developed regional regulations, standards, and guidelines related to the preparation of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), particularly the fourth edition of the United Nations GHS, the European Chemicals Agency's "Guidelines for the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets" (Version 1.1 - December 2011), the American National Standard ANSI Z400.1/Z 129.1-2010 "Hazard Assessment, Preparation of Safety Data Sheets and Safety Labels for Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace," and the Japan Chemical Industry Association's "Guidelines for GHS Response Labels and the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets" (2nd revision, 2008).
