US electronics manufacturers are required to pay a minimum annual fee of $50,000 per year to recycle E-waste

According to the list of annual registration fees for manufacturers published by NERIC (National Electronics Recycling Infrastructure Clearinghouse) in the United States (as shown in the table below), in 2009, manufacturers of electronic products that were subject to mandatory recall in the United States had to pay at least $50,000 per year in registration fees for nationwide product recall, depending on the state.

Several U.S. states have implemented mandatory electronics recycling programs, with the administrative costs of these programs covered by registration fees levied on electronics manufacturers. Maryland and West Virginia use these funds to subsidize local electronic waste collection and recycling, while other states typically use them to pay employee salaries, extend services, and support operations.
