Frequent volcanic eruptions prompt Indonesia to develop geothermal power generation.

  • 2011-02-08

Indonesia is facing a power shortage crisis, with more than one-third of the population suffering from daily power outages. Even five-star hotels need to provide their own electricity to operate. Recently, with frequent volcanic eruptions in Indonesia, Indonesians have come up with a brilliant idea: to use the geothermal energy from volcanoes as a free energy source to create new electricity.

Volcano power plant manager: "We will use the available thermal energy to boil the boiler, operating solely on the Earth's own energy."

Simply put, if the energy from Indonesia's frequently erupting volcanoes could be properly converted into geothermal power generation, it could not only solve the power shortage problem for 30% of Indonesia's population, but also avoid creating additional environmental pollution.

Hotel manager: "Normally, a typical hotel would spend 20% of its profits on electricity, but now we only need to spend 10%, all of which is due to the new energy source."

Now, with the collaboration between five-star hotels and volcano power plants, the problem of insufficient power supply has finally been solved. With the successful experience of high-end hotels, the Indonesian government hopes to expand the development and utilization rate of volcano power generation, so that Indonesia can achieve its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 26% by 2020.
