The Netherlands plans to submit a request to ECHA to restrict N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP).

In early June, the Netherlands expressed its intention to ECHA to restrict "N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP)," and the relevant documents are expected to be submitted before April 19, 2013.

The Netherlands argues that restrictions are necessary primarily because NMP is widely used in industrial production and in large-volume products, and exposure to NMP in work areas poses a health hazard to workers. The Dutch government believes there are uncertain safety concerns regarding NMP in paints and cleaning agents; furthermore, exposure scenario studies are lacking in relevant risk assessments, making it difficult to quantify the risk. The Netherlands maintains that restriction is a more feasible and practical risk management approach than authorization.

There are currently five proposed restrictions on substances pending submission. The other four proposed restrictions were submitted by Sweden. Details are as follows:
