Green building is a driving force in the US housing market.

  • 2015-09-29

In 2013, Green Homes accounted for 23% of the overall U.S. residential construction market. According to forecasts, by 2016, this share is expected to grow significantly to about one-third of the residential construction market.

According to a survey conducted by McGraw Hill Construction in the U.S., tracing back to 2006, green building development has not been affected by the housing market downturn in recent years; instead, it has grown against the trend. Construction companies with expertise in green building are more competitive than those unfamiliar with energy-saving, carbon-reducing, or Green Homes practices, and are less likely to be eliminated from the market.

Based on the current growth trend of Green Homes, the total construction value in 2016 is expected to increase from $36 billion in 2013 to between $83 billion and $105 billion. These figures come from McGraw Hill Construction’s major survey of green home builders and remodelers, presented at the National Association of Home Builders International Builders’ Show.

The survey also showed that the increase in green housing was due to:

– Changes in laws and regulations

– Better quality of life

– There are more diverse and affordable green products available on the market.

– Green buildings reduce energy costs in the future.

Manufacturers of building-related products in Taiwan should further develop energy-saving green building materials to keep pace with the burgeoning green building market and explore new business opportunities.
