They stated that the Markham Ice Shelf broke off from Ellesmere Island in early August. They also said that two large ice shelves, totaling 76 square kilometers, have broken off from the nearby Serson Ice Shelf. \"These changes are large in scale and worrying,\" said Warwick Vincent, director of the Northern Research Centre at Laval University in Quebec.
