In early June, the Netherlands expressed its intention to ECHA to restrict \"N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP),\" and the relevant documents are expected to be submitted before April 19, 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Netherlands argues that restrictions are necessary primarily because NMP is widely used in industrial production and in large-volume products, and exposure to NMP in work areas poses a health hazard to workers. The Dutch government believes there are uncertain safety concerns regarding NMP in paints and cleaning agents; furthermore, exposure scenario studies are lacking in relevant risk assessments, making it difficult to quantify the risk. The Netherlands maintains that restriction is a more feasible and practical risk management approach than authorization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are currently five proposed restrictions on substances pending submission. The other four proposed restrictions were submitted by Sweden.
